About EEA and Norwegian Financial Mechanism
Under the terms of the agreement between the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA), EEA's non-EU-member states (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland) pay fee for participating in the Union's internal market. The 'EEA and Norway Grants' support is based on these three countries' contributions. In addition to that, Norway signed bilateral agreements to establish the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, for the ten countries that joined in 2004. The procedure of the two support funds can be regarded unified; they are subject a unified set of rules and are managed by a unified system of institutions. Under these two programmes, Hungary was granted gross EUR 135 million altogether, between 2005 and 2009.

About the Danube-Mecsek Regional Development Foundation
Set up by the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, the foundation started operation in April 2006. The foundation intends to promote community, regional and economic development. The founder grants HUF 500mn per year to the foundation, and guaranteed this grant for five years. The Foundation's operation covers the neighbourhood of Hungarian nuclear facilities' environment and of the communities affected by waste deposit researches, namely near Paks, Kalocsa, Bátaapáti, Boda and Püspökszilágy. There are 60 communities in these areas, with total population of 136,000.
Eligible for grant through application are: local governments of these communities, their associations, as well as institutions, public interest organizations, NGOs, societies and businesses in the area of their administration, in all activities that are unambiguously in harmony with the Foundation's targets. In 2008, the Advisory board decided to grant HUF 495mn, which indirectly generated over HUF 7.5bn development in these areas. Most of the supported applications focus on job creation, economic development, programs promoting regional cohesion, improving communities, as well as developing local touristic attractions. In 2008 the foundation helped to create 105 new jobs. The Foundation greatly contributed to preparing the operative programmes that are funded from EU resources with Hungarian co-financing, and particularly helped participation in EU and Hungarian funding programmes.
The Foundation keeps searching for opportunities to apply for funding development – so it does not only announce applications but also submits its own. Its "Support of accesibility programmes in the settlements concerned by Danube-Mecsek Region Development Foundation" application submitted to EEA and Norway Financial Mechanisms, won HUF 550mn grant for the regions covered by its activity, and added its further resources to it from its own budget.
